Launch event: Phoenix Contact presents CCS megawatt charging connectors for the charging infrastructure of the future

A big bang at the start of The smarter E Europe 2025: Phoenix Contact presented the new CHARX connect professional, a CCS megawatt charging connector that sets new standards in High Power Charging (HPC). Around 100 trade visitors, influencers and media representatives followed the presentation of this pioneering fast-charging technology a milestone for e-mobility and the expansion of the charging infrastructure.

Revolution in fast charging: The new CHARX connect professional with megawatt performance

Michael Heinemann, General Manager of Phoenix Contact E-Mobility and Tim Flöter, Director Sales at Phoenix Contact Deutschland GmbH, presented the new liquid-cooled CCS charging connector in a stylish setting.

“With the second generation of our liquid-cooled CCS charging connector, we are taking High Power Charging (HPC) to a whole new level,” explained Michael Heinemann at the unveiling of the new connector. “This marks the beginning of a new era of ultra-fast DC charging.”

Why this charging connector is a game changer for electric vehicles

Thanks to an innovative cooling concept, the new plug enables charging powers in the megawatt range – while at the same time increasing service life. Heinemann recalled the company’s pioneering role: “We developed the world’s first liquid-cooled charging cable back in 2013. Today, we have the largest installed base of such systems in the world – this experience was the basis for the development of the new generation of our High Power Charging charging cable in the megawatt range.”

The new generation not only impresses with its performance, but also with its optimized handling: With a 20% reduction in weight compared to the previous model, the connector is significantly more ergonomic. Phoenix Contact is also setting new standards in terms of maintenance: mating face frames and contacts can now be replaced without opening the housing – this saves time and reduces operating costs in a sustainable way.

Technology meets sustainability: charging infrastructure for the All Electric Society

Phoenix Contact is committed to accelerating the global shift towards sustainable mobility. The aim is to make charging electric vehicles fast, convenient and suitable for everyday use. With the All Electric Society concept, Phoenix Contact is pursuing a clear vision: sustainable mobility through intelligent, powerful and user-friendly charging solutions. The new CHARX connect professional is a central building block for the future of e-mobility – especially in the area of e-fleets and charging parks.

Compatibility and scalability: CCS2 standard as the key

With the CHARX connect professional, Phoenix Contact is redefining the future of High Power Charging. The combination of megawatt charging power, innovative cooling and improved handling  the CCS charging connector a central element for the nationwide expansion of the charging infrastructure, especially for electric utility vehicles, buses and heavy electric trucks.

A decisive advantage: the new plug is fully compatible with the established CCS2 standard. This means that megawatt charging can be realized via existing CCS2 inlets. “Hundreds of thousands of vehicles in Europe can benefit from this,” emphasizes Michael Heinemann

With CCS megawatt charging, Phoenix Contact is not only underlining its technological leadership, but also providing a decisive impetus for the transformation towards the All Electric Society. The next generation of High Power Charging has started – and it starts now.
